July Is Flying By...
Summer has been so busy and it is hard to believe that we are already halfway through July! We have been enjoying the summer weather - for the most part - and hosted our friends for a 4th of July Brunch. It is SO nice to have guests in our home again. I am hoping this "Post Covid High" continues. The increasing number of new cases and lack of vaccinations have me worried about how things will change in the Fall. But for now, we are enjoying the freedom.
We enjoyed mimosas, baked Monte Cristo sandwiches with fruited cole slaw - you can find the recipes here - Fruited Cole Slaw/Broccoli Slaw
and here Baked Monte Cristo Sandwich
We enjoyed chocolate chip and lemon cookies for dessert. Thanks to Ann at
On Sutton Place for the Lemon Cake Mix Cookie Recipe
I made a visit to Dollar Tree and found many things that followed me home...
Since we are going to a Jimmy Buffett concert next month we needed some new grass skirts and I also found a great shark headband - Fins UP!
No matter what else I buy at Dollar Tree I always throw some batteries in my basket - I go through many batteries with my candles this time of year as I use many on our porch,
These erasers are a great cleaning tool....
and I love the chalkboard tags for entertaining or gift bags.
Some of my rugs were getting a little slippy and this does the trick.
I am amazed at the beautiful Hallmark greeting cards you can find at Dollar Tree at the price of 2 for a dollar. So many people ask me "where did you get such a great card to send" and it is usually Dollar Tree.
I am always on the lookout for a good book...
and another dollar pair of cheaters! I have cracked so many pairs by sticking them in my purse...and I needed a stronger strength, too!
We attended church on the 4th of July - and felt blessed to be a member of such a historic church.
The churchyard is filled with so many patriots...
Of course we dressed for church in patriotic colors ! Then we headed off to the beach for a few days...Rehoboth Beach, Delaware was hot, humid, and fun!
Beautiful sunrise...
great drinks,
crabcake sandwich,
Loved this menu...
toes in the sand...
and we had a great time out walking on the Boardwalk!
And the best part of the month - so far - was celebrating the birthday of one of our group of college friends called "The Kutzown Girls"! We all met in college and are still friends and getting together over 40 years later !
Hope your summer is going great - what have you been up to this month? Please leave a comment - I love hearing from you ! Thanks so much for stopping by Our New Vista!
I love that menu, too! How wonderful that you are able to keep in touch with your college friends! I’m a number of years older than you, and in the “dark ages,” travel and communication weren’t as simple as they have thankfully become. Friends scattered to different areas, married, had families....never developed the tradition of regularly meeting. Our oldest daughter, however, has been able to maintain those connections. It is good to be able to relax a little regarding virus precautions. My state, however, doesn’t have a very outstanding vaccination percentage. I continue to wear a mask when I’m shopping indoors. There is a good possibility we will have to resume our previous cautions if the variants really begin to move!
ReplyDeleteI sounds like you had a nice time entertaining your friends with such a nice menu. How nice to get away for your beach vacation. It's amazing that you still get together with your college friends. It sounds like you have enjoyed the month of July Ann. I enjoyed looking at all of the photos and thanks for the recipes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun get together with your college pals! I love your 4th of July decor. Your menu sounded yummy. It sounds like you are having a great month. Rehoboth sounds like a great getaway. I get a lot of the same things at DT. We have the same rattan purse!
